Recently I started playing basketball again after a stop of near ten years. During my younger days I would play for hours on Sunday morning in a middle school around where I live. Now I play in an indoor gym hoping the hardwood floor would be easier on my body. Sadly it was only my wishful thinking. After a few weeks, I noticed that the lower part of my shin is hurting pretty badly. After talking to a coworker who knows a lot about keeping healthy and maintain good body condition, he told me that I am suffering from Shin Splints.
Shin Splints is a often the result of overused muscle, which in my case, start play basketball without building up my body condition. As a frugal person, I dislike spending a lot of money on shoes. However, after a lot of research, the shoes you wear will have a huge impact on injuries such as Shin Splints. For those of you who is starting to exercise again after a period of inactivity, I found a good website, RunnersWorld, in which you can learn more about different types of shoes and how to stretch your body prior to intense exercise. As for me, I am getting a new pair of shoes and let my body rest for a bit before I head back into the basketball court.
